Hunter Solar Solutions

Commercial Solar for Newcastle & Hunter Region

Hunter Solar Solutions designs and installs commercial and industrial solar systems for businesses across the Hunter region, helping local companies cut electricity costs, meet sustainability targets and get more control over their energy bills.

Our certified in-house team handles everything from the initial energy audit through to grid connection and commissioning across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, the Hunter Valley, and Port Stephens.

Why Commercial Solar Makes Sense for Hunter Businesses

Commercial electricity is one of the largest controllable overheads for manufacturers, warehouses, wineries and industrial sites across the Hunter. A correctly sized solar system offsets daytime grid consumption directly, which is when most commercial and industrial sites draw the most power, production lines, cold storage, HVAC and refrigeration all run hardest during business hours, exactly when solar generation peaks.

Beyond the bill savings, businesses are increasingly asked by customers, landlords and supply-chain partners to show a credible sustainability position. A commissioned commercial solar system is one of the fastest ways to reduce Scope 2 emissions and back that up with real generation data.

Commercial-scale systems can also access Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), administered by the Clean Energy Regulator, which reduce the upfront cost — eligibility and discount levels depend on system size and current scheme settings at the time of installation.

New: Commercial Solar Rebate Expanded to 1MW

From 1 October 2026 (subject to the necessary regulations being finalised), Hunter region businesses installing solar systems up to 1MW will get an upfront, point-of-sale discount worth around 20% off installation costs — the same style of instant rebate homeowners are used to, now open to much larger commercial roofs and sites.

Until now, any commercial site wanting a solar system larger than 100kW had to go through the more complex Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET) process, with none of the upfront discount smaller businesses could claim. That left a “missing middle” — manufacturers, warehouses, wineries and industrial sites exactly the size the Hunter region is full of, sitting just above the old threshold with no rebate available.

The expanded scheme closes that gap. Systems up to 1MW now qualify for the same Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) discount mechanism that’s been reducing solar costs since 2011, administered by the Clean Energy Regulator.

Getting Started with Commercial Solar

We work with businesses right across the Hunter — manufacturing precincts around Tomago, Beresfield and Rutherford, distribution and logistics sites near the Port of Newcastle, wineries and tourism operators through the Hunter Valley, and industrial energy users across Lake Macquarie and Maitland.

Site assessment, system design and grid connection applications all take time, so it pays to start the conversation early, particularly for larger, more complex installations.

Hunter Solar Solutions makes the process straightforward.
